You Are Not Your Body, You Are the Witness

A return to awareness, the constant observer beneath the changing body, thoughts and emotions.

Just one little observation.

Since your birth everything has changed. Your body has changed, your thoughts have changed, your emotions have changed, your understanding of life has changed. But one thing has remained the same: your ability to observe everything.

You have been the constant observer of your body since birth till now.

Awareness is the path to inner happiness, lightness and a feeling of bliss. By constantly focusing on the thing that is permanent, the one who is constantly watching your body do things, and discarding temporary things that arise in awareness like thoughts and emotions as not being your ultimate identity, we cultivate a sense of freedom that makes living more fun and experimental.

Speaking from my own experience, I used to be a victim of my mind, constantly overthinking and other stuff. But with intense will of mine I adopted journaling, meditation and reading.

I journal a lot randomly, either on my phone or a small A5 notebook. Just writing everything that's coming into my mind, you just gotta pour it somewhere. Doesn't matter where, just pour it down and it starts losing its power.

In meditation, just focus on your breath and witness the fleeting nature of your thoughts. You begin to see how useless your constant association with them is. This way they start losing their hold on you.

And you know the beautiful part?

You don't have to fight your thoughts. You just have to become aware of them.

You are not required to become someone else. You are not required to construct another identity, another personality, another mask.

You have been thinking in reverse all this time. You have been trying to reach consciousness from the branches, from your body and outer states, when in reality consciousness is what makes all of this experience possible.

So why not leave all the jargon between you and consciousness behind and instead meditate directly upon it?

Don't keep getting lost in the infinite roots beneath the sand or the infinite branches above the tree.

Come back to the trunk.

Come back to the present.

Come back to awareness.

Because ultimately, experience is greater than theory. You can read thousands of books about consciousness but it is you who has to look within, meditate and discover what is present.

Nobody else can experience it for you.
